What's the nuttiest-sounding situation you've ... - Adoption Forums

I'm a relative newbie but already I'm awestruck by "the system" and how it "works."

I'm sure this is "normal" but I still just can't wrap my head around this kind of stuff, so I want to hear your wackiest stories. (I'm not sure what I think is more strange, the bio family situations or the court decisions.)

My FK's family (which is what sparked this thread):

Dad is MIA. Mom lost custody of the kids who were removed from Grandma's care for neglect. Mom has several brothers, all with several kids of their own. Only one was in any position to step forward to help. Kids were in my home til home study was done on Aunt and Uncle (who has a pretty extensive criminal history, some violent, most not). Between the two of them (Aunt and Uncle) they have 4 kids in their home, including at least one with special needs.

Uncle LIED ON THE STAND about one of his criminal situations. His homestudy was approved ~6 weeks later and the kids are living with him and Aunt while Mom works her plan.

I talked to Grandma today (we stay in touch periodically). Aunt is pregnant (which makes 7 kids for her to care for while Uncle is at work -- oh wait, she works too). The wives/girlfriends of the other two uncles also are expecting. This means Grandma is about to have 13 grandkids, and at least half her kids can't take care of their kids and have her watching them.

I still have a hard time believing that the judge let the kids go to Aunt and Uncle to begin with (although I supported it and am glad they are together and with family). Is there any way the judge would move the kids now that Aunt is pregnant, or do they need more of an issue than that?

Where does this fall on your nutty spectrum?
